Training Title: Understanding Leadership Styles

Duration: 30 minutes

Pre-Training Prep Time: 60 minutes

Materials Needed:

  • Whiteboard or flip chart and markers (if face-to-face)

Training Agenda:

Introduction (5 minutes)

  • Welcome participants and introduce yourself.
  • Explain the importance of understanding leadership styles.
  • Share the training objectives: To familiarise participants with various leadership styles and their applications.

Activity 1: Icebreaker (5 minutes)

  • Conduct a brief icebreaker to engage participants and set a positive tone for the training.
  • For example, ask participants to share their name, job role, and one word that describes their preferred leadership style.

Presentation on Leadership Styles (12 minutes)

  • Use presentation slides to cover the following topics:
    1. Definition of Leadership Styles
    2. Importance of Recognising Different Styles
      1. Understanding leadership styles is essential for effective leadership, fostering positive relationships, and creating a supportive and productive work environment. Leaders who can adapt their style and appreciate the diversity of styles within their teams are more likely to achieve their organisational goals and create a culture of trust and collaboration.
    3. Common Leadership Styles:
    4. Brief explanation and characteristics of each style.

Activity 2: Leadership Style Assessment (3 minutes)

  • Distribute a leadership style assessment questionnaire or handout to participants.
  • Ask participants to identify their own leadership style preferences by answering a series of questions.
  • Encourage participants to reflect on their leadership approach.

Discussion (5 minutes)

  • Facilitate a brief discussion on the assessment results.
  • Allow participants to share their identified leadership styles and any insights gained.
  • Emphasise that leadership styles can vary depending on the situation and context.

Activity 3: Case Study (5 minutes)

  • Present a leadership case study or scenario to the participants.
  • Divide participants into small groups and ask them to discuss how different leadership styles could be applied to address the situation.
  • Each group should share their findings with the larger group.

Conclusion and Q&A (5 minutes)

  • Summarise key takeaways from the training.
  • Encourage participants to ask questions and seek clarification on any concepts discussed.

  • Collect feedback from participants regarding the training content and delivery.
