Ofqual has just launched a public consultation on a new regulatory framework for apprenticeship assessments — including foundation-level apprenticeships (16–21, up to 25 with EHCP/prison leaver status).

They’re seeking feedback from employers, providers, apprentices and training organisations on how to embed the DfE’s assessment principles, ensure valid and fair assessments, and create consistent accountability across Awarding Organisations gov.uk+2gov.uk+2gov.uk+2.

📅 Consultation runs from 20 June to 27 August 2025 — roughly a 10‑week window to shape the future of apprenticeship assessment.

Why it matters for us in FE & Skills:

  • Fairness & validity: Every apprentice deserves assessments that are robust and equitable across providers.

  • Clarity for providers: Clear expectations help us design and deliver high-quality programs without regulatory guesswork.

  • Sector voice: This is our chance to influence how assessments are regulated — from everyday delivery to quality assurance.

Here’s how you can help:

  1. Visit the consultation on GOV.UK

  2. Share your expertise — whether you’re a tutor, provider, employer, or training manager

  3. Encourage colleagues, apprentices, and partner employers to have their say

Let’s make sure this regulatory framework supports high-quality, consistent, and meaningful assessment across the sector.
