Most CPD hours go missing not because the learning did not happen, but because nobody wrote it down. Logging hours well takes less than two minutes per activity if you do it the same week.
Step 1: log within the week
Memory fades fast. Record the date of the activity, the title, the provider and the time spent while it is still fresh. A free online CPD log lets you do this from your phone in under a minute.
Step 2: count time honestly
Count the time you were actively learning, not travel or lunch. Round to the nearest quarter hour. A 90-minute webinar is 1.5 hours; a three-hour workshop with a long break might be 2.5.
Step 3: separate target hours from wider learning
Many professionals have a target set by a regulator, professional body or employer. Keep learning that counts toward it apart from wider personal development, so your progress is never overstated. A CPD tracker with two rings makes this visible at a glance.
Step 4: add one line of reflection
Hours alone prove attendance, not learning. Add a sentence on what you learned and what you will do differently. Reviewers look for this first.
Step 5: attach the evidence
Certificates, notes or a screenshot of a completed module. Attach them to the entry so you are not searching inboxes at audit time.
Do informal activities count?
Often, yes. Reading, mentoring, supervision and learning from practice all count for many bodies, as long as you can describe what you learned. Always check your own body's rules.
