Who can do this: organisation owners Plan needed: any organisation plan (reporting lines matter most on Performance, where 1:1s and appraisals live)
Before you start
- The person must have accepted their workspace invite, so they show as active.
- The manager must also be an active member of the workspace.
Steps
- Go to Account and open your Organisation.
- Open People.
- Find the person in the list.
- Use the Line manager dropdown on their row and pick their manager.
- The change saves straight away. Their row now shows Reports to and the manager's name.
To remove a line manager, choose No line manager.
What happens next
- Managers see everyone below them in the tree: their direct reports, their reports' reports, and so on.
- Owners always see everyone.
- The person's profile drawer shows Reports to alongside their Workspace role.
Giving someone manager rights
Reporting lines and workspace roles are separate. To let someone manage the plan, select Make plan manager on their row. Select Make member to undo it.
When a manager leaves
Before or after they leave, pick a new line manager for each of their reports. Anyone left without a manager is still visible to owners.
Why can't I see this?
- No dropdown: only the organisation owner can change reporting lines. Plan managers can see them.
- The manager isn't in the list: they haven't accepted their invite yet, or they have left the workspace.
- A manager can't see someone: check the person's Reports to value. It must point to that manager or someone below them.
