Appraisals move through four steps: self-review, manager review, meeting and agreed.
- Owners see every appraisal. Managers only see the people who report to them.
- Ratings stay hidden from the staff member until the meeting.
- Objectives can link to a course. Completion is picked up automatically when the course is finished.
- Growth goals stay private until the person chooses to share them.
Between reviews
- 1:1 check-ins are your regular meetings (weekly, fortnightly or monthly). Both of you add wins, blockers and actions to a shared agenda, and open items carry forward to the next 1:1. Managers can keep a private note that the team member never sees.
- Milestone reviews are the formal checkpoints in the appraisal year, usually around 1, 3 and 6 months. They are suggested on sign-off, reminded by email the day before, and let either side record progress against an objective.
- Inside an appraisal, recent 1:1 summaries, wins and actions appear as evidence, so nobody has to remember what happened months ago.
