Learning with purpose

Make every verifiable hour relevant to your practice.

Enhanced CPD is more than a five-year hours total. Choose learning that fits your PDP, link it to relevant development outcomes and reflect on the benefit to your work. Keep the provider evidence that supports each verifiable activity.

01

Record what you did

Add the activity, date, provider and time spent. Courses are only the start - record supervision, reading and learning from practice too.

02

Capture what changed

Add a reflection while the learning is fresh: what you learned, why it matters and what you will do differently in practice.

03

Share when you choose

Export a clear PDF or CSV, or create a read-only link for an appraiser. You stay in control of your record.

The rules at a glance

GDC verifiable CPD hours and annual statements

Minimums depend on your registration title and apply over five years, not every year. Check your individual cycle dates and the requirements for every title you hold.

RequirementWhat appliesWhat to check
Dentists100 verifiable hours per 5 yearsCPD year: 1 January to 31 December; annual statement by 28 January
Dental hygienists, dental therapists, orthodontic therapists and clinical dental technicians75 verifiable hours per 5 yearsCPD year: 1 August to 31 July; annual statement by 28 August
Dental nurses and dental technicians50 verifiable hours per 5 yearsCPD year: 1 August to 31 July; annual statement by 28 August
Every consecutive two-year periodAt least 10 verifiable hoursIncludes periods crossing cycle boundaries; first-year-of-first-cycle exception applies
Personal recordPDP, activity log, reflection and documentary evidenceRetain throughout the cycle and for five years afterwards
  • Make your annual statement even if declaring zero hours; your applicable two-year and cycle requirements must still be met.
  • Each activity should link to at least one development outcome: A communication, B management, C knowledge and skills, or D professionalism and trust.
  • Recommended subjects are not all universal statutory subject quotas. Your role and other legal or employer requirements may create additional training needs.
  • Multiple registration titles require the applicable higher hours total and learning relevant to your roles. Passport tags do not certify an activity as verifiable.

WorkplaceHero helps you organise your CPD. Check the current GDC guidance for your registration and circumstances. WorkplaceHero is not affiliated with or endorsed by GDC. WorkplaceHero is an independent record-keeping tool. We do not accredit learning, certify compliance or guarantee that a regulator will accept your record - meeting your regulator's requirements remains your responsibility. Questions, answered

Before you start

How many GDC CPD hours do I need?
Over five years: dentists need 100 verifiable hours; dental hygienists, dental therapists, orthodontic therapists and clinical dental technicians need 75; dental nurses and dental technicians need 50. Check your titles and cycle dates.
Do I need 10 GDC hours every year?
No. The requirement is at least 10 verifiable hours in each consecutive two-year period, including across cycle boundaries, subject to the first-year-of-first-cycle exception. Annual statements are still required.
When is my GDC CPD statement due?
Dentists declare the calendar CPD year by 28 January. Dental care professionals declare the year ending 31 July by 28 August. These are CPD statement dates, not the same as every annual retention or indemnity deadline.
Does attaching a certificate make learning verifiable?
No. You must check the activity and provider documentary evidence against GDC requirements. An attachment or Passport marker is an organisational aid, not a verification decision.
Does Passport replace my PDP or eGDC statement?
No. Keep the required PDP and provider evidence and make your official statement through eGDC. Passport helps organise your learning, reflections and supporting files.
What does free Passport include?
Your personal CPD log, hours tracking, your own reflections, evidence attached to entries, CSV import and PDF or CSV record exports. No card or trial is required. PassportPro is optional and adds premium tools such as AI coaching and certificate reading.
