Learning with purpose

Build a record from the learning on every shift.

A debrief can change how you escalate concerns. A study day can sharpen your assessment. Record what you learned, why it is relevant and how it connects to the Code. A total alone cannot show the difference your learning makes.

01

Record what you did

Add the activity, date, provider and time spent. Courses are only the start - record supervision, reading and learning from practice too.

02

Capture what changed

Add a reflection while the learning is fresh: what you learned, why it matters and what you will do differently in practice.

03

Share when you choose

Export a clear PDF or CSV, or create a read-only link for an appraiser. You stay in control of your record.

The rules at a glance

NMC revalidation: CPD and reflection requirements

These requirements apply to nurses and midwives and to nursing associates regulated by the NMC in England. They cover your three-year revalidation period, not an annual quota.

RequirementWhat appliesWhat to check
CPD35 hours over 3 yearsKeep dates, methods, topics, relevance, hours, Code links and evidence
Participatory learningAt least 20 of the 35 hoursInteraction with one or more other professionals, in person or virtually
Written reflective accounts5 accountsUse the NMC mandatory form; relate learning, feedback or practice to the Code
Reflective discussionDiscuss all five accounts with another NMC registrantComplete the NMC reflective discussion form separately
ApplicationYour individual revalidation dateDue on the first day of the month registration expires; application opens 90 days before
  • An online course is not automatically participatory: interaction with other professionals matters.
  • CPD is only one part of revalidation. Practice hours, five pieces of practice-related feedback, health and character, indemnity, confirmation and other requirements also apply.
  • Passport reflections help you prepare, but do not replace the mandatory NMC reflective account and discussion forms. Avoid identifying patients, families or colleagues.

WorkplaceHero helps you organise your CPD. Check the current NMC guidance for your registration and circumstances. WorkplaceHero is not affiliated with or endorsed by NMC. WorkplaceHero is an independent record-keeping tool. We do not accredit learning, certify compliance or guarantee that a regulator will accept your record - meeting your regulator's requirements remains your responsibility. Questions, answered

Before you start

Is NMC CPD 35 hours every year?
No. It is 35 hours during your three-year revalidation period, including at least 20 participatory hours. There is no fixed annual CPD minimum.
What counts as participatory CPD?
Learning that involves interaction with one or more other professionals, physically or virtually. Watching a recording alone is not participatory just because it is online. Check NMC guidance for your activity.
Can Passport write my five reflective accounts?
Free Passport gives you space to keep your own reflections and evidence. You must prepare your five accounts and reflective discussion using the NMC mandatory forms. Passport does not submit them or confirm revalidation.
Does completing the hours complete revalidation?
No. CPD is only one requirement. Practice hours, feedback, reflective accounts, reflective discussion, confirmation and the other NMC requirements must also be addressed.
What does free Passport include?
Your personal CPD log, hours tracking, your own reflections, evidence attached to entries, CSV import and PDF or CSV record exports. No card or trial is required. PassportPro is optional and adds premium tools such as AI coaching and certificate reading.
