About this course
Health and social care settings combine general workplace risks with clinical, moving and handling, infection and lone working risks. Supervisors and managers need to understand all of them.
This Level 3 course covers health and safety law as it applies to care, risk assessment, the specific hazards found in health and care environments, and how to build a positive safety culture across a team.

Course content
The course is delivered in short, bite-size sections that learners can stop and restart at any point.

Legal framework
The Health and Safety at Work etc. Act, regulations relevant to care, CQC expectations and manager accountability.
- Section 2
Assessing risk
Risk assessment method, the hierarchy of control, safe systems of work and involving staff.
- Section 3
Care-specific hazards
Moving and handling people, infection and sharps, COSHH and medicines, slips and falls, equipment and premises.
- Section 4
People and performance
Violence and aggression, lone working, wellbeing, incident investigation, RIDDOR and active monitoring.
Who it is for
Registered managers, deputy managers, team leaders and senior carers in residential, domiciliary and healthcare settings, and anyone with health and safety responsibility in a care organisation.
Entry requirements: Suitable for those with supervisory or management responsibility. No formal prior qualification is needed.

Fully online and self-paced
Learners work through the course at their own pace and can pause and resume where they left off.

Knowledge checks
Short checks at the end of each section so learners can see what has landed before moving on.
Average completion time is around 8 hours, though learners can take as long as they need and return as often as they like.
How it is assessed
Knowledge checks run throughout the course so learners can test understanding as they go. The course ends with a multiple-choice assessment taken online. Learners who do not pass first time can retake it.
Certification
Learners receive a Highfield Online Training digital certificate as soon as they pass the end-of-course assessment. Certificates download straight away and can be saved to a CPD log or staff training record.
Refresher guidance: Most employers refresh this training every three years, with a shorter annual refresher in between.
