About this course
A free, practical awareness course for post-16 learners covering safeguarding, abuse and harm, exploitation and grooming, online safety, radicalisation and Prevent, mental health and wellbeing, welfare support, responding when somebody discloses something, and building your own support network. Built around one simple model: NOTICE, CHECK, SPEAK, SUPPORT.
What learners cover
- Explain safeguarding in practical, everyday terms
- Recognise abuse, neglect, exploitation, harassment and discrimination at awareness level
- Recognise that concerns can arise online, in learning, at work, at home and in relationships
- Explain what Prevent is intended to do, without stereotyping people or communities
- Recognise pressures on mental health and know when more support is needed
- Identify sources of help for safeguarding, wellbeing, welfare and emergencies
- Respond appropriately if somebody tells you something worrying
- Explain why confidentiality cannot be promised where somebody may be unsafe
- Recognise exploitation including sexual, criminal, financial and online grooming
- Build a personal support plan for yourself
